About Procyon!

Procyon Afghans & Irish Wolfhounds is a "marriage" of two individuals involved with breeding and showing dogs for many years. Procyon started in 1982 breeding and exhibiting Doberman Pinschers and in 1988 bred their first Wolfhound litter. Samos Afghans started in 1970 and has bred and exhibited Afghans for over 30 years on a "sometimes" occasional basis. In 1995 we came together through the happy institution of marriage and combined our two kennels under the Procyon banner. We no longer breed Dobermans we concentrate on our Afghans and Wolfhounds.

We have both been very involved in the dog community with conformation, obedience and instruction of novice dog owners. We are active as executive members of the Metro Valley Afghan Hound Association and are members of the Afghan Hound Club of Canada, the Vancouver Island Afghan Hound Association, the Western Gazehound Club, theSighthoundClubofB.C.andtheEvergreenAfghanHoundClubinWashington, and of course the Canadian Kennel Club. We have been members of several all breed clubs over the years but now concentrate our efforts with our specialty clubs. Lynn is starting her second term as B.C. Director of the AHCC, and Fred will be taking on the task of President of the Afghan Hound Club of Canada in January 2005.

We have always believed that one should give back to the dog community more than one takes away and we have always been available to novice owners as an information resource for any questions or problems they may encounter. As we have gained so much pleasure and enjoyment out of our involvement with our dogs we feel it is only right that we should mentor those new dog owners so they too can share in that same enjoyment.

We have had modest success over the years. Our dogs have won their share of awards including Best in Show, numerous Specialty wins and many Group placements. In 2001 earned Championships on seven of our nine new puppies and our Irish Wolfhound Can/Am Ch. Procyon's Rambo of Moloney was No. 3 Wolfhhound in Canada. Recently our young Afghan make, "Delaney" finished his American Championship to go along with his Canadian title and his International title. We are proud to say that we have accomplished this as owner handlers. We breed occasionally and mostly for our own enjoyment.
